Hello, Thanks for checking out my post. I'm a mechanical engineer by day and sometimes design things for myself when I have time. This moon light is something others may enjoy so thought I'd make a few and see what happens. I will likely come up with additional lighting designs in the future. I also have a version that uses a black cord, until I run out.
Hanging Moon Light Kit will ship with the LED light installed along with the adapter and moon threaded onto the light cord. This kit also includes several components for mounting the light.
Kit Includes:
- Hanging Moon Light with 12ft cord which has a built in on/off switch. The switch is about 3ft from the plug end.
- 1200 Lumens LED bulb.
- 2 hooks with drywall insert and 2 hanging cord holder pieces, all in small bag
- 2 rectangular cord holder pieces for the wall, 2 quick remove/damage free adhesive strips(rated for 2lbs), 4 zip ties, all in larger bag
The hanging moon sphere is made using a resin 3D printer. This provides exceptional detail, as you can see in the photo. Details are not really visible until the light is turned on. The moon is a little less than 5 inches in diameter. The adapter connecting the moon to the corded light socket is 3d printed, as well.
Once hung, the lock nut/flange can be loosened and the orientation of the moon can be rotated as desired(see photo). Gently tighten the lock nut back.
The hardware in the small bag can be used to hang the moon from the ceiling but does require drilling into ceiling and screwing hook into insert. Hardware in the larger bag can be used to help hold the cord to the wall. Apply the damage free strip to the bottom of the rectangular cord holder. Be sure to apply the correct side to the cord holder. Side that is applied to the wall is stated on the strip. Route the cord through the opposing hook design on the rectangular cord holder. Remove protective strip that states wall and secure to wall where you want the cord. The rectangular cord holder can be helpful for keeping the switch oriented properly. Put the zip ties through the small holds in the cord holder and tighten. The rectangular cord holder is also 3D printed.
This uses an extremely bright LED and the moon lamp is designed around the 29mm diameter of the LED. This is stated to last 30,000 hours so should be a long time before a replacement bulb is needed but a 29mm maximum diameter must be used or it will not fit through the adapter/moon opening. Also a dimmer bulb will reduce illumination/detail on the moon.
