This welding blanket. It can withstand hot metal slag, so hot stoves should be fine. This thing will do exactly what you need it to do! After using the stovetop (which was on medium-high for at least 20 minutes or so), I turned it off, took the pot off, and put the welding blanket on the stovetop. After handling the pot, I measured the temperature of the stove. The burner temperature was 397°, but the temperature on top of the blanket was only 88°. As a DIY enthusiast, you need this great blanket. The blanket is so thick I can hit it with a lighter. The thickness is natural to absorb beads of sweat and prevent them from burning through.
This is a small felt like fire blanket meant for sliding. This won't catch on fire and helps protect whatever surface you're working on. if you are only learning welding, so this is more than enough for you at this point.
