While thicknesses are similar (e.g., ~1.6mm for M6 in DIN 125 vs. ~1.5–1.7mm in DIN 9021), the expanded surface area of DIN 9021 washers is their defining feature.
2. Functional Applications
DIN 125 washers are designed for general-purpose fastening in machinery, electronics, and light structures, where even pressure distribution and surface protection are primary goals. DIN 9021 washers, however, are engineered for heavy-duty applications—particularly in steel structures, wood/composite materials, or automotive chassis—where their oversized design prevents bolt/nut heads from sinking into soft materials and provides superior load-bearing capacity.
3. Standard Updates
Both standards have been superseded by ISO equivalents:
