Sweet almond oil is extracted from the seeds of the almond tree (Prunus amygdalus), whereas bitter almond oil may also come from the seeds of the apricot tree. The oil is extracted by expressing the seeds without using heat. Sweet almond oil is pale yellow with a characteristic nutty taste, and consists of oleic acid, linoleic acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid, as well as vitamins. |
Aromatherapy is the practice of using natural oils, including plant-based and essential oils, with the view to improving psychological – and sometimes physical – wellbeing. Almond oil is an ideal base carrier for general therapeutic massage. Can also be massaged directly onto the skin. Sweet almond oil is especially suited to dry, sensitive and irritated skin. |
