Due to its properties and its diuretic action, borage has often been used as a depurative. Borage oil is a source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is part of the omega-6 fatty acid family. With its 20 to 26% gamma-linolenic acid, it is a better source of omega-6 than evening primrose oil, which only contains 7% to 10%.

The evening primrose gives yellow flowers with a very pleasant fragrance and whose fruit contains seeds rich in oil.
