About the scent: The previous scent came from the oils we were using. We found a true Monoi Oil unscented and have added true Tahitian Gardenia Absolute. It is most enjoyable.

Monoi de Tahiti is an oil certified from Tahiti. It is made by adding native Tahitian Tiare flowers to Virgin coconut oil. This is a process called Maceration. This process is to get the properties of the Tiare blossoms into the oil. This adds the nutrients from the Tiare Flower into the oil. In the right moisturizer, these nutrients can be absorbed into the skin. Of course true Monoi de Tahiti is an expensive precious oil. And we’ve created a truly unique moisturizer. Not some oil and thickener. For that reason, few moisturizers on the market do it justice. They add in other less than precious oils. We decided to do it right. You also won’t find silicones or thickeners like algin or sea weed or gums in our moisturizers.

Our moisturizers are ‘Olde World’ artisan made moisturizers. It took us years to get this good at making them. 

Details details, details: In order to make a unique experience for our customers, every new moisturizer is a challenge. First we searched for other Monoi Moisturizers to look at. There’s really not much out there. The ones that are there use a small amount of Monoi. This is a TRUE Monoi de Tahiti product. We buy the finest Certified Monoi from Monoi USA. They’ve been in business since 1942.

We have to meet certain guidelines to use the Monoi de Tahiti name. Mainly at least 1% of a moisturizer must be Monoi. I actually find that funny. Monoi is the only oil. I won’t say the exact percentage, due to copyright concerns. But it is many, many times the 1%.

DMAE is a interesting anti-aging ingredient. See more below about the wonderful benefits. But the problem with DMAE is it is very acidic. So we had to buffer this acid to get this product to a nice pH neutral.

We tested dozens of formulations until we found the right combination. Here’s what’s curious, Monoi is made mostly of Virgin coconut. Yet, if you feel virgin coconut and monoi, they have a totally different feel. That is due to the nutritional ingredients the Tare flowers impart into the virgin coconut oil. It’s almost magical. And now to have a truly unique moisturizer using only Monoi, it’s special!

Ingredients:

Reverse Osmosis Purified water. Virtually all skin care products ‘say’ they use purified water. But the real deal is reverse osmosis purified water. This mean ZERO contaminants which means the starting point is pure. It’s expensive to do (goes through 5 filters, which have to be changed often), but it is the only water we use. We use the waste water from this purifying process to water our flowers and landscaping. So there is no waste. Don’t some products use distilled water? Yes but distilled water is environmentally expensive to make (heat is used to boil the dirty water and steam is collected). The problem we have with distilled water is it has a lower pH due to the extra ions added during the process. it’s very harsh. We prefer to work with pH neutral water. To me there is no more perfect water than R-O water. I remember the 1st time we made soap with it. As we poured the soap it was so creamy! It looked like home made ice cream right before it gets solid. It’s one of our special secrets to how good our products are. Again, no one does this.

Monoi de Tahiti More about the oil we use: Born in the sun of the Pacific Islands, Monoi de Tahiti is a treasure full of natural goodness. BTMS:   Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol BTMS, also known as Conditioning Emulsifier is a self-emulsifying wax, a quaternary ammonium salt derived from the natural plant oil Colza, and contains no ethoxylated ingredients. It is both a mild primary emulsifier and an excellent conditioning agent, which provides elegant cationic emulsions for both skin and hair care products. These creams tend to resist wash off, leaving a soft, powdery feel on the skin.

DMAE (2-dimethylaminoethanol) We tested this lotion both with and without DMAE and all of our testers agreed with DMAE showed substantial improvements in the quality of their skin. And fine line removal. So why one more anti-aging product?  You can’t have too many tools in your toolbox. Besides many people are just going to love this moisturizer as a moisturizer. And the scent too!

Sodium Hydroxide. As a buffering agent. We use a tiny amount in this ingredient to counteract the acidic nature of DMAE.

Germall Plus  (diazolidinyl Urea, 3-Iodo-2-propylbutylcarbarmate) (a vegetable derived preservative to keep our product fresh). Look before you ask, no totally natural preservative really protects products from bacteria. We don’t like using Parabens. And since we pH balance our moisturizers we are limited in our choice of preservatives. What’s great about this one is so little is needed to afford protection.

The wonderful fragrance of Monoi de Tahiti: Tiaré Absolute (Tahitian Gardenia Absolute) (Gardenia tahitensis). Organically crafted Tiaré Absolute or Tahitian Gardenia Absolute, also sometimes referred to as Tiare Essential Oil, is extracted from the magnificent creamy white flowers of the Gardenia taitensis tropical shrub, growing in Tahiti, the largest Island of French Polynesia in the southern Pacific Ocean.

Tiare Absolute is also useful for formulating blends to help purify, support pain and inflammation relief, and encourage skin healing. Tahitian Gardenia Absolute Oil also has anti-inflammatory properties, as well as refreshing, moisturizing, and regeneration effects on the skin.
