For RCA RCA Victor 1933 Velocity Ribbon Microphone Booklet 44-A
For RCA RCA Victor 1933 Velocity Ribbon Microphone Booklet 44-A
"Great quality!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - Pat
"Only thing better than fast service is the excellent quality of this brochure & manual. Great Work" - Bob
This listing is for a restored version of the 1933, 8-page illustrated brochure introducing the velocity microphone (specifically, the model 44-A, with program and announcer stand options) to the Radio Broadcast World. This was an expensive brochure for RCA to produce (much higher quality than the manuals), and has excellent printing quality and paper for its time. This made for an exceptionally high-quality and successful restoration.
The original brochure was listed on eBay and purchased for big bucks by Stan Coutant, RCA Microphone historian (he has a great web-site). Thanks to his generosity, I was able to borrow it to restore. And now you can have a copy of it that looks better than the original.
The brochure contains 15 restored vintage black/white photographs. Many of the photos have new backgrounds, like the originals, but greatly cleaned up. All of the photos were stripped out, separately restored, and have the original half-tone dots removed, while maintaining the photo resolution. This gives a clarity to the photos that they never had in the original brochure. The photos were then composited back onto the pages of restored text and graphics, where new color was added. The result is really amazing to see and read.
Our production standards are high:
- Each booklet is individually printed in the USA.
- We use heavy photo paper for the glossy front and back covers, and
- 32 - 37 lb. laser paper for the inside black & white pages and color pages
- If the original RCA Manual had a blank page, so will ours!
- 10-mil thick clear plastic sheets protect the front & back covers.
- Everything is then bound with a plastic ring comb, so that the manual will open flat and be very durable.
I’ve added pricing information, typed on the original, to give you an idea of how expensive these mics were back then. The features of the 44-A are carefully outlined as new technology for the technical reader. The history of the development is related, and then the theory is explained in simple terms (referring to a 1933 I.R.E. proceedings paper by Dr. Harry Olson of RCA). Frequency Response and Directivity Curves are included, with a comparison to existing pressure type designs. There’s a nice photo of the internal construction showing the magnet structure and ribbon, and another photo of a large, clunky windscreen designed for the 44-A. Mountings and accessories are described and listed in a Parts List, and photos show the suspension mounting, the Announce Stand (91-A), and the Program Stand (90-A). Each of these mountings, with the mic itself, is a separate product. The back page shows and talks about the new cast aluminum flags that were available from RCA and why they should be used on-air, then details the mic Specifications, and the Model Numbers, and finally the Price List, with the weight of each mic assembly.
We have several different T-shirts designs. Since we combine shipping whenever possible -- be sure to alert us when you are making multiple purchases.
